An architectural wall sculpture by Ray Berger composed of an intricate framework of linear metal rods and layered geometric panels. Signed and dated 2010 on verso. Executed in contrasting silver, brass, copper, and darkened metal finishes, the composition combines textured, hammered, and sculptural surfaces to create depth, movement, and visual rhythm. The elongated vertical format and asymmetrical arrangement recall the expressive metalwork of the Brutalist movement while maintaining a refined contemporary sensibility. The work functions as both sculpture and architectural wall art, changing dynamically as light interacts with its varied metallic surfaces.
From a private collection. Dimensions: 35"h x 15.5"w x 5.25"d. In very good condition.
Raymond Herbert Berger (1929–2017) was an American metal sculptor celebrated for his handcrafted Brutalist and modernist wall sculptures. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, Berger maintained a successful independent career spanning more than four decades, exhibiting and selling his work at juried fine art shows throughout the United States from the 1970s through the 2010s. His evolving practice incorporated steel, copper, brass, and chrome, with increasingly intricate and reflective compositions becoming hallmarks of his work. Berger's sculptures attracted a substantial national following, with designs such as his celebrated Kaleidoscope becoming particularly successful among collectors. His legacy continues through the Metal Sculpture Studio and his son, artist and fabricator Gary Berger.
